The ancient Chinese made the world's first maps and in mapping theory and technique, they once led the world. In order to inherit and carry forward Chinese culture, summarize China's ancient mapping techniques and spread Chinese mapping knowledge around the world, the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping and the State Bureau for Museums and Archaeological Data organized a study of Chinese maps and mapping history.
