Comprising works of art from India, China and Japan, this catalogue celebrates the enduring beauty and appeal of Asian lacquer. It highlights lacquer’s role within global maritime trade and examines the diverse materials and techniques used in its application to bases such as wood, metal, porcelain and papier-mâché. By bringing these objects together, the exhibition underscores the vibrant exchanges of materials, motifs and skills that shaped artistic production across continents for centuries.
